This is it – The all-new 2018 Ford Focus
Ford promises the all-new Focus as the most Innovative, Dynamic and Exciting Ford Focus ever!
Ford Focus the most sold nameplate has now taken a full circle after first being introduced 20 years back. Ford is making big claims for this all-new 2018 Ford Focus as the gamer changer car for its C- segment. The first generation broke covers back in 1998 replacing the former Escort. That first generation Focus right off the batt started to collect accolades all over Europe. Focus MK1 was a revolutionary car and it was awarded the 1999 car of the year award. To date, Ford has sold a staggeringly astronomical 16 million units worldwide.
The kicker comes in the shape of grueling WRC, where Focus shines with the flying colors remember Colin McRae & Niki grist co-driver. For all the Ford Focus fans in the Middle East, it is worth recalling the fearless Mohammad Bin Sulayem of UAE (Vice President of the FIA and a member of the World Motor Sports Council) was also the Ford Focus WRC driver and had numerous wins with his famous Focus.
This time around Ford would like to relive those moments, perhaps making it the driver’s car right from the beginning and that the reason Ford had placed the Focus ST-Line at forefront of its reveal. Even though Focus ST-Line looks totally cool and sporty still it’s not a proper thoroughbred ST hatchback. As s start of this fourth generation of Focus Ford will introduce initially multiple hatchback variants, there will be sedan followed by a wagon and a newly introduced concept called Focus Active. It’s essentially the same hatchback but bit SUVish and with a more bolder look. however, some countries or market may receive all the body styles and trim level and some have only select models depending you the market demand. Furthermore, some markets will receive by late 2018 and some countries will have Focus sometime next year in 2019. eventually once the Focus will rollout in the market it will be sold as 2019 model year car.
This all-new fourth generation, from the ground up designed as Global Focus. The C2 platform is brand new and the design itself on a clean sheet. Having a newer platform will allow Ford to embed new connected technologies or Level 2 automation to a family car. as Ford wants this Focus to be a benchmark car again. Sophisticated Ford Co-Pilot360 technologies enhance protection, driving, and parking, and are designed to make the driving experience more comfortable, less demanding and safer.
Ford has also carried out a deep research starting from the most natural thing: getting in and out of the car. hence Ford has applied a new “Human-Centric” design philosophy to make the most natural things easier and stress-free. As an example, Focus will have cushioning knee pads next to the center console, so that when driver lumps down ion the seat the knee should receive a soft absorption rather than hit hard on the plastic.
New Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition and Lane-Centring technologies help negotiate stop-start traffic. Predictive curve light and Sign-based light help drivers see more clearly. First Head-up display for a Ford model in Europe delivers greater confidence at the wheel. Active Park Assist 2 enables fully automated parking maneuvers at the push of a button. Standard selectable Drive Modes, 20 percent torsional rigidity improvement and isolated independent rear suspension offering Continuously Controlled Damping – a first for Focus – keep it at the top of the class for driving dynamics and improve comfort. All-new Focus introduces FordPass Connect embedded modem for connectivity on the move, Wireless charging pad, SYNC 3 with 8-inch touchscreen, and B&O PLAY audio. Advanced EcoBoost petrol and EcoBlue diesel engines supported by new eight-speed automatic transmission, offering a 10 percent fuel-efficiency improvement across the range.
For this new Focus Ford has upgraded its Saarlouis Germany production plant by investing 16 million euros to improve the quality of 2018 Focus. The basic Focus will start off with a famous frugal and Ford’s multi-award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost is offered with 85 PS, 100 PS, and 125 PS. Interestingly, Ford is also introducing industry-first cylinder deactivation system for a three-cylinder engine.
Then comes an all-new 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine is offered with 150 PS and 182 PS. In addition to those engines, the European market will receive an all-new 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine and a different 1.5-liter petrol engine, as well as a 2.0-liter diesel option. All the -new Ford Focus will also have a new 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6 speed still in continuation in Focus to keep the fun-to-drive drivers happier.
As mentioned above, the all-new Focus remains true to the nameplate’s 20-year legacy of class-leading driving dynamics, further enhanced with the first Focus-application of Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) technology for the independent front and rear suspension systems; new Drive Modes; an isolated rear subframe for greater refinement; and Ford-patented spring technology. At the moment this tech is only available in the luxury Lincoln models or selected Ford cars such as Mustang and Explorer.
Styling & Variants
Revealed in five-door hatchback, wagon and in selected markets four-door body styles, the most comprehensive Focus line-up ever is offered with exclusive personalities to complement the broadest spectrum of mid-sized car customer aspirations, including the stylish Focus Trend and Titanium, sporty Focus ST-Line, upscale Focus Vignale and the first Focus Active crossover. The chassis of every derivative has been tuned to deliver the immediately recognizable Focus character.
The ST-Line is aggressively designed and looks meaner as well with functional rear-roof spoiler and distinctive LED head Lights and cut-through the center DRL along with a sharper looking signature gill makes it a stand-out car. sporty carbon fiber-effect finishes and red stitching will enhance the mood of the sporty ST-Line
In the recent past, Ford has faced a lot of criticism as customers complaining about the quality of materials. This time Ford has not only decided to use higher quality materials at the same time Ford has introduced a Vignale experience. The Vignale badged cars will have a richer feel and further upscale quality of materials. Volkswagen, the archrival of Ford has already taken the lead from Ford in this respect. Hence Ford tends to lose customers who are will to pay extra but has to cross the showroom and look into another’s product, perhaps no more.
The Focus Vignale will be complemented with “coast-to-coast” lower front aperture designed to appear more jewel-like and artisanal; and restrained Vignale ornamentation such as the satin aluminum finishes for the roof rails, fascia and rocker inserts, and signature Vignale style grille mesh. The cabin will be adorned with fine-grain wood-effect finishes and premium leather.
The adventure-oriented Focus Active crossover will ride more than 30 millimeters above the ground than the other Focii. The raised Focus Active is dressed with unique exterior styling. Front and rear knuckles, and rugged looking interior cabin space.
There’s a miles-long list of tech that is crammed into this new Focus, however, once the car will land on our shores, we’ll know exactly whats in the bag for us. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see and keep watching this space for more
