Lincoln MKC Concept launch in Dubai
Yesterday evening at The Royal Majlis, Emirates Golf Course was the final curtain raiser for Ford & Lincoln to launch their Concept products for public viewing here in Dubai for the first time ever outside of America. The event wasn’t a high & dry one, but infact it was Dubai’s Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance. This time it’s the Lincoln MKC concept. A stunning little SUV (Smart Utility Vehicle in Ford’s language) based on Ford Escape platform. The concept car was like a jewel among the other jewelry display by Di Donna, a Canadian Jewelry designer. Also present was Dubai’s own live chocolate making ChoCo’a chef. The setting in the golf course was like luxury-on-par!
Here with reference to Lincoln MKZ, launched earlier at Gitex technology weekend, Marketing Director, Paul Anderson said, “The first of four Lincolns that we are gonna be launching over the next few years was a smash hit. Because like Lincolns of the past, it delivers exactly what a very distinctive car customer is looking for: incredible, impactful, distinctive design. Technology, that is unmatched by anybody in this segment and a customizable ride & handling experience: that a customer chooses based on mood or preference. There are a lot of interesting customers that are emerging from the luxury buyer group there’s a very important group that is looking for something different. They are tired of driving the same old brand that everybody else is driving. And they are looking for something more distinctive, something that makes the statement about their own individuality. This is something about their own uniqueness, and they want to celebrate that. And that is exactly the customer that we are targeting with new generation of Lincoln products”.
Lincoln did hit the home run in terms of designing the car. It was a no non-sense close to production model as conformed by both Paul Anderson (Ford Marketing director) and also by Susan Lampinen (Ford group Chief Designer) that the real car would be very close to this MKC concept design.
The design speaks of all the signature elements. From the split-winged front grill to the rear one corner to the next single piece tail lights. Then everybody panel is accentuated with sculpted lines as visible on the hood and the side fender lines. The side incorporates high belt-line creating the tension creases starting from both front and ending at rear end characterizing the chiseled muscular looks. The roof line is also bit low and quite aerodynamic from A-pillar to C-pillar. Both front and rear doors features frame-less windows. But it’s the beautifully aluminum sculpted wing mirrors that defines future looking Lincoln design direction, again chances are slim to make it for real production car but they are still far away from other car makers model presentations that sometimes look as if he whole car is design by a DC magazine cartoon designer. No, I am not commenting towards exciting Lexus LF-NX concept. Nor the car is anyway close to bit mundane Tesla X concept, albeit from for the upward swing-open doors.
Coming towards the interior, it was made to feel like open airy with the glass panoramic roof that sits on top of the A & C pillars, allows maximum light to brighten the cabin. Though this glass panoramic roof is not new in Ford design philosophy, it debuted on Ford Edge then in Ford Mustang, and now recently in the newly launched Lincoln MKZ. The front and rear 2 + 2 seating individualized by a long center console seating.
The MKC Concept has a wonderful stance and sits beautifully on its wheels,” said Lampinen.
“It has a sleek, sculpted body and wheel arches and elegant shoulders. The lines of the vehicle appear relatively simple on first look but with a second view reveal a dynamic three dimensionality.”
Even though every product that sells is backed by its unique selling point, the luxury car manufacturers facing stiff challenges to find a niche within their segmented market. It’s the new way to support the brand identity to individualized their product line that helps them stand out from the crowd. Lincoln has created four bespoke identities crafted for the customer’s individual desire & lifestyle. The craftsmanship is visible in custom design Argento wood: totally hand crafted with real silver flakes and dust layered between layers of wood!
Such bespoke program is called Black label. “It’s a collection of designer inspired themes that are put together that gives the customer very premium experience”. “Modern heritage; is all about high-end luxury played with light and shades. With dark upper and light lower. A bottom line expressed by Lampinen: “A person who is not afraid to own a white couch, detailed with crimson red stitching!” Center Stage: this explorer the individuals bold aspirations with pop colors”. Lampinen continues to discuss more about the remaining two themes, while carefully, taking the stroll around the car. “Oasis is about quietness and zenith experience, a break from everyday hustle bustle in life”. The wood used in Oasis theme is zero coated that is used in high-end yachts & musical instruments. Lincoln is going to be the first automaker to incorporate such brilliance to the market”. Lastly if you are someone who is chocoholic and still want more chocolate then you should dive into “Indulgence” theme. It just makes you immersed in dark brown rich chocolate surrounding.
Today no matter who you are, you always remain in business, such is the present day idea. The facet of communication is connected with SYNC to connect your smart phones with My Lincoln Touch infotainment system. And off course it just not ends here, the car is loaded electronic gizmos. A Class-exclusive, available inflatable rear safety belts supplement with eight standard airbags. Lincoln Drive Control – an intelligent system that delivers a refined ride and engaging driving dynamics. Standard Lincoln Drive Control intuitively integrates multiple systems (engine, transmission, body and chassis) to deliver totally new Lincoln driving quality. A distinct Push Button Shift gear selector that enables flowing and architectural center console design A quiet, well-appointed interior enhanced by standard Active Noise Control.
It’s nice to know with Concept products Lincoln has admitted the fact: “Stop living in the past”! Everything is there is for the present day customer who wakes up every morning and drives in Lincoln for his future!
