Motoring Discourse Of The Week – Flux Capacitor
It’s a simple known science that words actually take you in an imaginative world where you like to be. Because they trigger the start of the mind game in your own known imaginative world. Carefully chosen words can easily influence people. And marketers have used them all the time so they can sell better. It doesn’t matter whether the product can excel in its class, but that’s how they draw our attentions. Carefully chosen words to influence people. But what if they backfire, just because the intend purpose is not what is desired or seems to be.
This 2015 NAIAS, Ford dropped three consecutive bombshells. They’ve acquired a large area to boast their history and heritage. Future endeavors, like “Innovative Park” showcasing species of plants that Ford realistically used the herbal extracts in the manufacturing process of it’s automobiles. And no doubt Ford is achieving the better desired results. Good work!
But what if the Words backfires? Can it create riots in mind? Actually, I am referring to the all-new spectacular Ford GT. I was simply awestruck with jaw dropping design. Ford yet again hit the target with GT’s heart stopping and attention grabbing presence. The word all around echoes the same story: it’s the Ford, who stole the 2015 NAIAS show and then followed by Acura’s NSX.
It all started in mid-sixties when the Ford commission to build GT40 to compete against Ferrari. GT40 won the 24 hours at Le Mans races on the trot, from 1966 to 1969. The answer was simple. GT40 was an engineering par excellence!
Keep It Simple
Back in 2005 Ford revived the GT moniker and made the present day GT40. Since the GT40 was having a total height 40 inches and the second generation’s height was more than that (40 inches), hence accommodating a wide variety of customers, the number 40 was removed from the nomenclature. Though the GT was made in small number 4038 in total. The car was made to simply reignite the lost-forgotten Ford racing heritage. Once again people loved it and there was nothing questionable. The GT was the supercar among other supercars! Its performance figures match the best of the ilk. A zero-to-sixty happens in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of electronically limited 205 Mph! Furthermore, unlike other supercar who can’t even carry the weight of radio, Ford GT was luxuriously equipped with air con as its all-aluminum, DOHC 4-valve mid-mounted 5.4 L Modular V8 engine strapped with a Lysholm supercharger produces asphalt tearing 550 HP at 6500 RPM and earth-rolling 500 lb·ft of torque at 3750 RPM.
However, today, when Ford announced the comeback of GT, the press release of Ford reads as: “Ford today unveiled the all-new GT, an ultra-high-performance supercar that serves as a technology showcase for top EcoBoost performance, aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fiber construction”. The horsepower figures are still undisclosed but it says more than 600 plus
Ford may be bang-on, on its second generation 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine. But today the definition of Ultra-high performance supercar is the one that comes with the extended propulsion system. The Porsche 918 plug-in hybrid. How about McLaren P1 another hybrid supercar and Ferrari La Ferrari as well. Ford GT boasts a similar supercar bodyand uses the super light materials, but sans the super propulsion technology. The all-new second generation EcoBoost engine is best suited in another body. Lets recall the stunning concept Ford had introduced in 2005, called Shelby GR-1. Shelby GR-1 would’ve been a natural competitor to a wider variety of sports car ranging from Porsche 911 Turbo S, to Corvette Z06 and McLaren 650S and the ubiquitous performance machine the wicked Nissan GT-R. And most of them aren’t the top dog to represent their company’s halo car. What’s more throw in some luxuries, a change in body design and the badge of Lincoln, Ford could’ve opened the new vistas for the Lincoln badge. Lincoln then could re-spark some the energies in the car of Older’s. Mercedes GT or Jaguar F-type R and Aston Martin could possibly be on the same horizon.
Looking at the bigger picture, into the future Honda/ Acura strategy, the decision seems more sensible. A decision to see where NSX has to be in near-distant future with three electric motors and a conventional engine. What magic it can pull on the track? This can easily be traced in the least-best example for the straight-line performance of Tesla model S and BMW’s innovative i8. However Acura NSX is in the different league, in the league of superlative engineering only coming from the Ferrari, McLaren & Porsche. That’s a supreme club!
Today’s the chosen video is from Pearl Jam’s fourth album called No Code. No Code is one of the most beautiful album as it explores the eastern melodies and fused it with grunge. This is however one of the live performance of a song called Red Mosquito. Pearl Jam was less known for fancying MTV videos. Hence their video list is just too short yet for every famous song, there’s a live concert bootleg video available. Today, Eddie Vedder is revered to have the most recognized voice on the planet. Enjoy! if i had known then what i know now…
This week the stories ranging from United Arab Emirates to global happening.
Audi is further expanding the biggest investment program in its history. From 2015 through 2019, the Ingolstadt-based company plans to invest €24 billion, which is €2 billion more than in the previous planning period. 70 percent of the investment will flow into the development of new models and technologies. Audi aims to meet stringent CO2 limits worldwide with a new generation of extremely economical combustion engines and alternative efficiency technologies.
AUDI AG is proud of another year of record sales. In motorsport, the brand with the four rings is poised for growth as well. The world of Audi Sport will be featuring even greater diversity in the 2015 season. Audi Sport encompasses both factory-backed and customer motorsport activity and includes the Audi Driving Experience, the Audi RS models and the Audi R8.
But here’s the bombshell from Audi. Finally Audi concluded a long-distance 900 kilometer drive in A7 self piloted car! The new sensor data system enables a continuous plausibility check during piloted driving to ensure the correct decisions are being made by the vehicle and the driver. Four smaller cameras at the front and rear of the vehicle provide short-range information of the surrounding environment. The hi-resolution, wide-angle 3D video camera, which will first see production in the new Audi Q7, observes the surrounding traffic. The sensor technology is close to production and meets financial targets for inclusion into future products.
The concept relieves the driver of driving duties from 0 to just over 110 km/h. The car can initiate lane changes and passing maneuvers as well as accelerate and brake independently. Before initiating a lane change to the left or the right, the vehicle adapts its speed to surrounding vehicles. If the speed and distance calculation is deemed safe, the vehicle initiates the lane change with precision and in a timely manner.
Here’s the proof.

McLaren P1 GTR Geneva Debut
Here is the all new and production ready McLaren P1 GTR. The development program for the most powerful and most exclusive McLaren model to-date has been stepped up over the winter months, with the limited edition McLaren P1 GTR being put through its paces across Europe and the Middle East. Ahead of the start of production later this year, and the launch of the bespoke Driver Programme, the track-only model will make its global debut in production form at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March.
As testing continues, the McLaren P1™ GTR looks set to be one of the fastest to ever wear the famous McLaren ‘speed mark’. Through significant weight-saving measures and track-optimisation of the petrol-electric powertrain, McLaren P1™ GTR will boast a power-to-weight ratio increase in excess of 10 percent over the road-going model, to more than 700 PS per tonne. This has been achieved using motorsport-derived technology and expertise, with the track-only model completing thousands of kilometres of extreme testing at several UK and European locations, as well as a demanding testing schedule in the extreme heats of Bahrain and Qatar, with Chief Test Driver Chris Goodwin at the wheel. These tests have pushed the performance of the car to its limits, and have been designed to further enhance cooling and aerodynamics over the design concept previewed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the summer of 2014.
The dedicated development programme will continue at the relentless pace over the coming months to further tune the performance, aerodynamics, driving dynamics and handling balance to ensure the McLaren P1™ GTR lives up to the iconic ‘GTR’ title, made famous by the 24 Hours of Le Mans-winner 20 years ago. In the coming weeks, the McLaren P1™ GTR Driver Programme will get underway, with drivers invited to the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, UK to start the journey which will see them experience some of the world’s most iconic racing circuits behind the wheel of one of the most extreme limited-run track cars ever built.
The production-intent McLaren P1™ GTR will make its global debut on Stand 1240, Hall 1 at the 85th International Geneva Motor Show.
Nissan Motor Co., through its North American-based organization, and NASA announced the formation of a five-year research and development partnership to advance autonomous vehicle systems and prepare for commercial application of the technology.
Researchers from Nissan’s U.S. Silicon Valley Research Center and NASA’s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif., will focus on autonomous drive systems, human-machine interface solutions, network-enabled applications, and software analysis and verification, all involving sophisticated hardware and software used in road and space applications.
Researchers from the two organizations will test a fleet of zero-emission autonomous vehicles at Ames to demonstrate proof-of-concept remote operation of autonomous vehicles for the transport of materials, goods, payloads and people. For NASA, these tests parallel the way it operates planetary rovers from a mission control center. The first vehicle of that fleet should be testing at the facility by the end of 2015.
“The work of NASA and Nissan – with one directed to space and the other directed to earth, is connected by similar challenges,” said Carlos Ghosn, president and CEO of Nissan Motor Co. “The partnership will accelerate Nissan’s development of safe, secure and reliable autonomous drive technology that we will progressively introduce to consumers beginning in 2016 up to 2020.”
Nissan has set 2020 as the timeframe for the introduction of autonomous drive vehicles that have the ability to navigate in nearly all situations, including the most complex situation, city driving. According to the terms of the partnership, NASA will benefit from Nissan’s shared expertise in innovative component technologies for autonomous vehicles, shared research to inform development of vehicular transport applications, and access to appropriate prototype systems and provision of test beds for robotic software. “This partnership brings together the best and brightest of NASA and Nissan and validates our investments in Silicon Valley,” said Ghosn.
2015 Dubai 24 Hours
The NISMO PlayStation GT Academy continued its legacy of unearthing real racing talent from the world of PlayStation®’s GranTurismo game yesterday when an all-gamer line-up finished the 2015 Dubai 24 Hours race in second position in the top Pro-Am class, a stunning fifth overall.
Competing in the full race-spec 550bhp Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 in the prestigious international race was the ultimate prize for four GT Academy 2014 winners -Gaëtan Paletou (France), Ahmed Bin-Khanen (Saudi Arabia), Ricardo Sánchez (Mexico) and Nicholas Hammann (USA). The impressive result comes after only three months of intensive training in GT Academy’s cutting-edge Driver Development Program. The new drivers were joined in the race by 2013 GT Academy Germany winner, Florian Strauss – the team’s ‘professional’ with a full 18-months of racing experience.
The GT Academy team’s fortunes ebbed and flowed throughout the night with some unlucky timing on driver changes and a couple of drive-through penalties costing them time. But when the sun came up, Nick handed over to Florian who put in a charge and took the car to P2 in class, fifth overall. Gaëtan consolidated the position handing over to Ricardo with a five-lap buffer over their nearest rivals. The team orders then came through to bring the #23 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 home safely and, fittingly, it was senior partner Florian Strauss who took the chequered flag in the fourth 24-hour race of his 18-month motorsport career.

With over 30,000 units of the 911 sold, the sports car icon also ranks above the figures for the previous year.
Racing/ GT3 Cup
Defending champions Al Nabooda Racing have set themselves a big target as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East prepares to makes its first daylight appearance at Qatar’s Losail International Circuit this weekend.
Clemens Schmid and Ahmad Al Harthy, who arrive in Doha holding second place in the team championship, aim to make a decisive move in the title race in Rounds 5-6 on Friday and Saturday and in the double race weekend to follow in Qatar on 13-14 February. “Our goal is always to take maximum points from the weekends and we will do the best we can, irrespective of the other competing teams,” said Al Harthy ahead of two days of testing at the Losail circuit starting on Wednesday.
“We have more than half the championship remaining, there are many points to gain and many for others to loose, so we need to stay focused and give it our best. Consistency will be the key to winning the team championship.” Trailing current leaders Sky Dive Dubai Falcons by ten points, Al Harthy knows that a big performance this weekend by himself and Schmid, who currently heads the individual drivers’ championship, can put Al Nabooda Racing on top.
