Motoring Discourse Of The Week. We Came In…
Here I am back again online after a long break. Though I completely agree that it doesn’t even feel like its a near criminal act leaving everyone high and dry. But I have excuses with me. First, I’ll blame it on my computer. Its back in order that’s why I am back online. However, it still requires a complete overhaul so it may take few more weeks to be brand new again. secondly, well there are more than a long list of just secondly or thirdly so I am not gonna waste my time here. But it feels so good to be back again with all my partners on board.
Hello and welcome to everyone. Exciting times ahead once everyone in my Rearview Mirror!
Before I start formally, I like to share a head banger’s delight, a-lament song, with dynamic melodic structure and so loud to shake everyone. With police like sirens in the background makes it quite dramatic and if somebody is aware what was happening in the background, then knowing makes it more intriguing. The song is from Pink Floyd’s The Wall catalogue, and it’s the first opening song called “In The Flesh? However, this video below is from Foo Fighters Feat Gran Daddy Roger Waters himself, A quasi Nirvana attitude by Dave Grohl with his custom-made Gibson Trini Lopez in Pelham Blue is elevating. Moreover, surprisingly, Its the drummer who has taken the lead to express his passion.
Furthermore, down below everything will be as relative as the thunderous song opening the blog post! OK, let me now come into the context, the subject matter, the cars; the motoring, yes the show must go on! We Came In…
First of all, is the news on Audi A5 Sportback. For some-odd reasons, it took us at Rearview Mirror, almost a month to get hold onto a sleeky A5 Sportback. Reasons? I already mentioned are odd! OK, it was just a matter of dates that we and Audi PR find a bit challenging to match with our schedules. And then off course it was the last week of Ramadan. One can understand that it gets busier before the joyous Eid arrives. Good news (spoiler here) it was a real sleeper. Test drive was done and review post will be up this week.
Furthermore, I had with was Nissan’s Altima. And this was another sleeper. As the badge reads V6- 3.5l. You can expect the sparks. I quite like it.

Kerb side hotel parking is not quite accessible and easy these days because the involvement of valet parking has increased. You are now politely forced to leave your car keys to that bloke that is not giving you the east to west smile, but he’s eagerly waiting for his 5 minutes of fame. A chance to throw his butts on your special mobile. We all heard and now seen numerous live videos showing that dreadful scene “what happened next” and then the expressions of the owner. To end the melodrama that eventually “end in tears,” Chevrolet has introduced a new system in the 2015 Corvette known as Valet Mode: A Baby Monitor For Your Baby that leaves you stressed free in the hotel.
Owners of 2015 Chevrolet Corvettes will feel better about handing over the keys to their car, thanks to the new Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder.
The industry-exclusive system allows drivers to lock the interior storage, disable the infotainment system and record video, audio and vehicle data when the Valet Mode is active.
“Think of it as a baby monitor for your car,” said Harlan Charles, Corvette product manager. “Anyone who has felt apprehension about handing over their keys will appreciate the peace of mind of knowing exactly what happened while their baby was out of sight.”
Introduced in 2014, the Corvette Valet Mode is turned on through the settings menu and activated by entering a unique four-digit code. A confirmation entry of the code simultaneously locks the storage bin behind the center stack display, the glove box and disables the radio and infotainment system.
With the introduction of the industry-first Performance Data Recorder for 2015, Corvette drivers can also record HD video, in-car audio, and vehicle data – including speed, engine RPM, gear position and g-force – when Valet Mode is active. The video can be viewed instantly on the Corvette’s eight-inch color touch screen when the car is parked, or downloaded to a computer.
“Performance Data Recorder was initially designed as a tool for track days, allowing drivers to record their laps and improve their driving skills,” said Charles. “We soon realized the system could have many more applications, such as recording a scenic drive, or recording when the Valet Mode is activated.”
The Performance Data Recorder includes three major components. First is a 720p, high-definition camera mounted within the windshield header trim, which records the driver’s point-of-view through the window. Audio is recorded via a dedicated microphone in the cabin.
Second is a self-contained telemetry recorder. The system utilizes a dedicated GPS receiver and is hardwired into the Stingray’s Controller Area Network to access vehicle information. Finally, the system features a dedicated SD-card slot in the glove box for recording and transferring video and vehicle data. An 8-gigabyte card can record approximately 200 minutes of driving time.
The PDR system can record video with three data overlay options, including Track Mode, Sport Mode, Touring Mode and Performance Mode. Valet Mode with the Performance Data Recorder will be available on all 2015 Corvette models.
The All-New 2015 Cadillac Escalade is available in the Middle East this month.
Available in showrooms across the region this month, the Escalade quickly became the standard among luxury SUVs with a winning formula of bold design, powerful capability and luxurious accommodation for up to eight occupants since its introduction. Three succeeding generations led the luxury SUV to cement its reputation as an icon.
The exterior features crisp, new and more sophisticated surfaces, accented by dramatic light-emitting diode, or LED, lighting. In parallel, the new interior features’ cut-and-sewn and wrapped materials, with wood trim options chosen for elegance and authenticity. Seats were engineered to be more comfortable and sculpted in appearance. In addition, the new interior is dramatically quieter thanks to a stronger new body structure, new and enhanced acoustic material, and Bose Active Noise Cancellation technology.
CUE, Cadillac’s advanced system for connectivity and control, is also standard, featuring state-of-the-art voice recognition with touch controls common with the world’s most popular tablets and mobile devices. Escalade’s new technologies include safety features to help protect occupants before, during and after a collision, such as Front and Rear Automatic Braking, which relies on short-range radar technology and ultrasonic sensors to help the driver avoid front and rear low-speed collisions via a progression of alerts that extend to complete braking, if necessary.
Furthermore, new is the segment’s only Front Seat Center-Mounted air bag, which is engineered to provide additional protection to drivers and front passengers in far-side impact crashes, where the affected occupant is on the opposite, non-struck side of the vehicle.
The performance threshold for the all-new 2015 Escalade lineup rises with an all-new, more efficient 6.2L V-8 engine rated at an SAE-certified 420 horsepower and 624 Nm of torque – a nearly 5-percent increase in horsepower and 10 percent more torque. The greater torque delivers an enhanced feeling of power on demand, particularly from a standstill and at low speeds.
The new 6. 2L features state-of-the-art technologies, including direct injection, Active Fuel Management, or cylinder deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system, designed to make the most of power, torque and efficiency across a broad range of operating conditions. More precisely controlled combustion enables Escalade to run with a higher compression ratio, which delivers greater power and greater expected efficiency.
The engine is matched with the Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission with enhanced TapShift control.
The product line consists of the standard Escalade model, as well as the extended-length ESV edition, which offers a 14-inch-longer (355 mm) wheelbase and approximately 20 inches (508 mm) more length overall. This further maximizes space for third-row passengers and provides 60 percent more cargo space behind the third-row seat.
The all-new 2015 Escalade arrives with an MSRP pricing starting from AED302, 000 in the UAE.

We all know that first 500 Euro-types already sold in record 30 seconds! The prices of the new Mustang are available on the official Ford website. This also indicates the availability of the fresh 2015 Ford Mustang on the showroom floor expected soon. Here is the Ford media press release.
2015 Mustang starts production at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant; car to be exported globally for the first time in its 50-year history. New Mustang goes on sale this fall in the United States, and in more than 120 countries next year. Mustang sets new performance and dynamics benchmarks for the brand with world-class handling, more precise steering control and enhanced ride comfort.
The highly anticipated, all-new Ford Mustang rolls off the line today at Flat Rock Assembly Plant, marking production of the sixth-generation pony car. For the first time in its 50-year history, Mustang will be available globally to customers in more than 120 countries around the world.
The addition of a right-hand-drive Mustang to Ford’s global vehicle lineup will allow the iconic pony car to be exported to more than 25 right-hand-drive markets around the world, including the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa.
“Mustang is and will continue to be an automotive icon,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas. “Expanding its availability globally affords our customers around the world the opportunity to have a true firsthand Mustang experience – one unlike any other.”
In April, Ford celebrated the 50th anniversary of the original Mustang. In commemoration of this, each 2015 model will be adorned with a badge on the instrument panel that includes the galloping pony logo and the words “Mustang – Since 1964.”
Mustang’s impact goes well beyond the more than 9.2 million cars sold in its 50 years of continuous production. It has made thousands of appearances in film, television, music and video games, and is the most-liked vehicle on Facebook, with close to 8 million likes.
An enhanced experience, but still a true Mustang
The way Mustang looks, drives and sounds is key to the visceral experience that makes drivers want to get in and hit the open road. The clean-sheet design of both Mustang fastback and convertible evokes the essential character of the brand, retaining key design elements – including the long sculpted hood and short rear deck – in a contemporary execution.
With more options to choose from, there is a Mustang to fit any lifestyle. The upgraded V8 is joined by a 3.7-liter V6 and an all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine that brings state-of-the-art technology to Mustang. Mustang GT continues with the latest edition of the throaty 5.0-liter V8 – now featuring upgraded valvetrain, new intake manifold and improved cylinder heads – that yields 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. of torque. The Mustang 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine uses direct injection, variable cam timing and a twin-scroll turbocharger to deliver the performance Mustang drivers expect with an output of 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft. of torque.
Ride the Mustang
When life throws drivers a curve, the all-new Mustang sets new handling benchmarks for the brand, delivering world-class dynamics and ride quality. Mustang features all-new front and rear suspension systems. At the front, a new perimeter subframe helps to stiffen the structure while reducing mass, providing a better foundation for more predictable wheel control that benefits handling, steering and ride.
At the rear is an all-new integral-link independent suspension. Geometry, springs, dampers and bushings are all specially tuned for this high-performance application. New aluminum rear knuckles help reduce unsprung mass for improved ride and handling.

Maserati celebrated its 100th anniversary in grand style at Monterey Car Week. Maserati isn’t a stranger to the famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance where – in 1968 – a Maserati Mistral Coupé took top honors as Best of Show. Still today, it is the most recent post-war car to capture this recognition.
As Honored Marque at this year’s 64th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the lawn was packed with significant examples illustrating Maserati’s rich century of history, including – in the Maserati Centennial Racing Class – a 1954 A6GCS Spyder, 1955 Maserati 250F Monoposto, and 1956 Maserati 300S Fantuzzi Spyer. The ’54 A6GCS took the trophy for best Granturismo noted for its artistic beauty and highest level of performance in a granturismo. One of the most fascinating cars of all times designed by Pininfarina in 1954, the A6GCS proved a valuable source of inspiration for the designers of the Alfieri concept of today.
Looking forward to Maserati’s next century, the highly acclaimed Alfieri concept 2+2 made its North American debut during a special centennial celebration at the Mazda Raceway during the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion, where Maserati was also the Honored Marque. As Lorenzo Ramacioitti, Head of Fiat Chrysler Automobile Global Design, presented the stunning concept, he stated “This car has a racing breed,” but added that it has “a kick of poetry.” The Alfieri also made a star turn on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
At the auctions during Monterey Car Week, classic Maseratis were stars as well. At Bonhams, highlights included a 1969 Ghibli 4.7 Spyder which sold for $841,000 USD; and a 1949 Maserati A6 15000/3C Berlinetta which captured $891,000. At Gooding & Company, the historic Maserati 250F driven to victory by Sir Stirling Moss at Monza in 1956, sold for $4.2 Million USD.
It was a birthday party worthy of turning 100!
GT-R, Doubles Up
Here is another bang for the buck. And if you one of the lucky owners of Nissan’s rocketship GT-R, you’ll be happy to learn that Arabian Automobiles, Flagship Company of AW Rostamani Group, the exclusive dealer for Nissan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates has announced an outstanding increase in their Nissan GT-R sales.
Arabian Automobiles doubles Nissan GT-R sales in the first half of 2014 when compared to last year. The current model generation has been refined year over year since 2008, making Nissan GT-R one of the fastest vehicles to ever be produced to date. Not only does it offer outstanding performance with an incredible 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, but also enhancements built over 50 years in sports car heritage. It is quite simply the sum of everything Nissan stands for: Innovation and Excitement.
Salah Yamout, Sales and Marketing Director, Arabian Automobiles said, “The iconic Nissan GT-R has once again exceeded industry expectations. This impressive increase in sales is largely due to the continued dedication of the Arabian Automobiles team as well as our passionate customers. We aim to continue to maintain this momentum and accomplish even higher sales for the year ahead”.
Model year 2014 joins us with minor enhancements in exterior appearance. A new signature red color has been added to the lineup. Furthermore, the GT-R features new efficient, high-intensity, multi-LED headlights that create a distinctive “lightning” motif, generating a striking exterior visual signature. With such a unique visual reference, the GT-R’s road presence is enhanced, particularly in low-light and at night. The new headlights feature AFS (Adaptive Front lighting System) that automatically adapts the angle of the light beam according to the speed of the car. At the rear, the GT-R’s distinctive four-ring tail light signature now forms coherent circles of illumination, giving the GT-R an equally distinctive appearance. The Nissan GT-R is once again powered by an intoxicating 545-horsepower advanced 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 with a fine-tuned suspension, granting a smoother ride comfort due to enhancement in suspension. These features add to the four-passenger Nissan GT-R’s usability as both a daily driver and a high-performance machine.
Equally imporant here in UAE is the SUV. Off course everything that is bought here by considering the Def Leppards lines: All I want is everything. Am I asking too much? yeah bigger, more and luxorious is better!
The famed Nissan Patrol, dubbed the ‘Hero of All Terrains in Life’, shattered sales records galore throughout the Middle last month. July sales for the region hit a record monthly high of 3,581 units, a substantial hike of 103 per cent on the same month in 2013.
Nissan Patrol is a name synonymous with ruggedness; a legendary off-roader capable of going anywhere, anytime. With rich heritage spanning over 60 years, the Patrol is Nissan’s flagship SUV model and enjoys a passionate following across the Middle East.
In the UAE a record 1,506 Patrols left the showroom floors while Oman (702 units) and Qatar (316 units) also notched all-time highs.
Kuwait (347 units), Bahrain (95 units) and KSA (316 units) added to the impressive record tally in the GCC countries.
Nissan recorded dramatic July year-on-year increases in the UAE (72%), Qatar (57%), Oman (63%) and Kuwait (80%).
“Last year saw Nissan register a 32 per cent market share in the Gulf market. That is expected to be boosted even further when the figures are totaled at the end of 2014 due to the surge in Patrol sales. Patrol has built a reputation for being one of the most durable, reliable and capable off-road vehicles in the market. Many buyers of the Patrol in the Middle East region are extremely loyal to the vehicle. Breaking sales records is an affirmation of the Patrol’s popularity in the region, we look forward to further achievements throughout the rest of the year,” Samir Cherfan, Managing Director, Nissan Middle East said.
Proving its credentials beyond doubt, Nissan Patrol previously entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2013 by pulling a 170 tons cargo airplane. It is the heaviest airplane ever pulled by a production car at a live airport.
It is built with the high level of safety, performance and quality that characterises the Nissan brand. As per the latest sales statistics, Nissan Patrol commands a commendable 28% of the top-end SUV segment in the Middle East. The model is developed specifically with the Middle East’s climate and terrains. To assure its durability, Nissan engineers have invested over 13,000 hours in testing Patrol prototypes in the region.
The Nissan Patrol has introduced many of the world’s leading automotive technologies for the first time. The Hydraulic Body Motion Control System (HBMC) kept the car flatter with less body roll during lane-changing and cornering, while delivering superb stability on rugged and sandy tracks. The Patrol employs an All Mode 4×4 system, which allows the driver to quickly switch between four drive modes: sand, on-road, snow and rock, with the flick of a switch. The new Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control functions also can be selected easily with the touch of a button for braking purposes on slope road surfaces.
In addition to the 6-speed manual transmission and 7-speed automatic on other grades, a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual mode is introduced on the entry-level XE grade.
Back in February I posted Rolls Royce Rolls-Royce Teases with Phantom Drophead Coupé Bespoke Waterspeed Collection Sketch well now its a reality. At the North American debut of Waterspeed at the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said, “Sir Malcolm Campbell’s successful pursuit of world-speed records on land and water were the result of his commitment to the most exacting standards of British design and engineering excellence. Such attributes are hallmarks of every Rolls-Royce motor car. This special Collection serves to display the breadth of Bespoke personalization available to every Rolls-Royce customer. We are thrilled to celebrate excellence in automotive design and showcase the Collection at the crown jewel of automotive events here at Pebble Beach.”
The Phantom Drophead Coupé Waterspeed Collection features a number of exclusive Bespoke design and engineering features, perfectly executed to create a thoroughly contemporary tribute to Campbell’s famous craft.
A specially created ‘Maggiore Blue’ color scheme flows like water over all the surfaces of Waterspeed, outside and in. Nine layers of paint are applied before an exhaustive process of hand-sanding and the application of a cutting-edge powdered lacquer is undertaken to ensure an impeccable finish. For the first time in Rolls-Royce history, the exterior finish extends to the engine, creating a visually striking homage to the power behind Campbell’s records. The finish also adorns the car’s specially developed, fully-polished eleven-spoke wheels, providing a subtle decorative accent. The exterior is completed with a hand-painted coachline that culminates in a Bluebird motif with the design taking Rolls-Royce’s master coachline painter four hours to apply by hand.
Phantom Drophead Coupé’s traditional teak decking to the rear makes way for brushed steel, with each piece of material individually beaten by hand for 70 hours and then hand-brushed for a further 10.
The car’s exterior finish is subtly echoed via accents on the dash-board that perfectly complement the ‘Windchill Grey’ interior leather scheme. The marque’s hallmark attention-to-detail extends to the application of laser-engraved door armrest tunnel caps featuring a new interpretation of Campbell’s famous Bluebird motif.
Abachi wood also makes its Rolls-Royce debut in Waterspeed. By nature, the material is cool to the touch with a satin-like tactility, and is bookmatched at an angle to echo the wake left by a boat moving at speed.
Further reference to Campbell’s craft is made via a new interpretation of the famous ‘power reserve’ dial. As the driver presses on, the dial moves backwards towards a yellow and blue zone, echoing Campbell’s original K3 boat’s ‘going into the blue’ at maximum engine revolutions. A Bespoke clock adorned with Bluebird’s infinity symbol and dials hewn from a billet of aluminum further evoke K3.
Direct tribute to the records is paid in the glove compartment, with a debossed panel expressing the records Campbell achieved on Lake Maggiore and on Coniston Water. Finally, the steering wheel is presented in two-tone for the very first time, with ‘Magiorre Blue’ accents balancing perfectly with traditional black leather to complete a beautifully conceived interior design scheme.
“This very special motor car serves to pay a perfect homage to my grandfather’s remarkable acts of British daring and endeavor,” said Donald Wales, grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell. “The extraordinary attention-to-detail and commitment to engineering excellence so evident in these motor cars perfectly echoes the lengths my grandfather and his colleagues went to in their pursuit of the water speed records.”
