Stranger Than Fiction – No 44, Lewis Hamilton and UAE National Day.
The 2015 F1 grand prix season ended. The finale took place at Abu Dhabi Yas Marina Circuit. A 5.5 km long circuit with 21 turns and is praised for having a unique aesthetic looking Yas Viceroy hotel on top of the race track allowing the cars to underpass to the other side which is a scenic drive, as the cars run along side of the marina.
This year was very special, as the United Arab Emirates decided to celebrate their 44th National Day along side with F1 finale on Sunday. Also very special is the race for British Racing driver, Lewis Hamilton, who is anticipating his 44th win here at the same time.
To grace the occasion, Hamilton’s racing car bearing number 44, Hamilton collaborated with Tourism & Culture Authority Abu Dhabi (TCA Abu Dhabi) and Yas Martina Circuit to celebrate the UAE’s 44th National Day. The number 44 also displayed on the Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management HQ building, located right alongside the longest straight on the Formula 1 calendar.
As any leader would, and I can always quote a line from Ayrton Senna “I am not designed to come second or third. I am designed to win”. And truly that’s all matters! #TeamLH also come adorned with omens to win the most anticipated 44th win for Lewis Hamilton! His specially designed Bell helmet and gloves now have a number 44 with UAE flag colors.
However, here are some numbers that has the magic number 44 embed in.
- Lewis Hamilton, picked up the DHL fastest-lap time of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, clocking a time of 1.44.517.
- The fastest lap, also achieved during lap 44.
Ironically, 2015 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix title was won by his Mercedes team member Nico Roseberg by clocking 1:44.913 and Lewis trailed at second with a splitting hair difference at 1:44.946.
What an incredible year it has been. This team has done a remarkable job, so a big thank you to everyone back in the factories. i wouldn’t be standing here as World Champion without them. I’ll go away now for the winter aiming to come back stronger, fitter and straight on top of our new car for 2016 – Lewis Hamilton
