The Bentley GT3-R taking the Honours at 2016 Gulf Concours
The Bentley GT3-R awarded ‘Best Bespoke Limited Edition’ at the inaugural Gulf Concours
The first ever Gulf Concours d’Elegance held at the prestigious 7 star Burj Al Arab hotel. While the sun was setting behind the waters of the Arabian gulf, the Terrace, and the surrounding lawns were occupied by the 2000 invitation-only privileged guests around the all exclusive, finest and the rarest collection of classic cars inspiring the art of bygone era and the bespoke modern day machines with their impressive technical advancement creating the automotive history.
The racecar-inspired Bentley Continental GT3-R scooped up the award for “Best Bespoke Limited Edition”. Limited to just 300 examples globally upon its launch and highly regarded in the Middle East amongst collectors, the GT3-R is as breathtaking in its approach to interior design as to its dynamic ability. Judges at the Gulf Concours recognized the bespoke model, awarding the luxury manufacturer for Bentley’s rarest and most performance-focused interpretation of luxury.
Accepting the award on behalf of Bentley Motors, Robin Peel, Head of Marketing and Communications – International said, “The GT3-R is truly a statement in quintessential British luxury combined with a level of performance borne out of Bentley’s long racing heritage. We are very pleased to see that the GT3-R has been recognised by automotive experts at the Gulf Concours for its very special characteristics.”
Inspired by the Continental GT3 race car, the GT3-R blends proven track and road credentials. The marque’s racing roots are unashamedly brought to the fore through a high performance retuned version of the Bentley 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. Developing an astounding 580 PS (572 bhp / 426 kW) and 700 Nm of torque, together with a 100 kg weight reduction and shorter gearing, the GT3-R is the fastest-accelerating Bentley ever. Capable of reaching 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds, the GT3-R is a Grand Tourer with a performance that truly echoes Bentley’s impressive racing pedigree.

Immensely powerful for its day, the engine is a 4 ½ Litre Supercharged unit made by Amhurst Villiers with 4 valves per cylinder, a feature that was decades ahead of its time. This 175 bhp powerplant, mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox with reverse, was able to accelerate the Blower to a top speed of 100mph (160 kmh).
The Blower was one of the stars of the Gulf Concours, where it was joined by some of the finest luxury Bentley models currently on the market. These included the recently launched Bentayga SUV, the limited edition Continental GT3-R – arguably the most uncompromising and focused road car Bentley has ever produced – and the Flying Spur W12. Also present on display an example of the ultimate in traveling comfort, the Mulsanne Extended Wheel Base.
