The New S 65 AMG Coupé – “Performance Art”
My memory serves me well and is still fresh; the first Mercedes Benz 500 Coupe, I saw in a British car magazine done in race red, and the photo shoot was done in a chilling icy winter. To me, it was one of the most beautiful and elegant looking stately car (coupe). Low roof-line, fast-sloping C pillar blending into the rear deck. The most important and point here is; I am fortunate enough to see many exclusive cars and then touched some as well but moreover, drove quite a few as well. Even so, somehow that car was engraved in my mind. In fact, there’s a probability that there’s section of my mind where the brain cells are in the template of Mercedes Benz 500 SEC AMG!
Back then AMG was not a part of the Mercedes Benz. However, it was revered as sacred garage producing racing engines formed by a small group of Mercedes engineers in Affalterbach. Back then, it was called Mercedes Benz 500 SEC AMG (based on a W-126 chassis), where off course SEC being a former classification of S Class Coupe. Furthermore, as the time progressed, SEC turned into the CL Class until the new one now known as the S 65 AMG Coupé.
The Exclusivity and Performance

Unique drive comfort, benchmark performance and exquisite appointments are all hallmarks of this two-door vehicle. The engine is unique in its segment, and is still built in Affalterbach based on a “one man, one engine” principle.
However, thanks to the AMG sports suspension based on MAGIC BODY CONTROL, the S 65 AMG Coupé delivers an incomparable driving sensation. The new curve tilting function allows the S 65 AMG Coupé to lean into bends in a manner similar to a motorcyclist or skier. In addition to this function, the MAGIC BODY CONTROL suspension system includes ROAD SURFACE SCAN technology that can detect surface undulations in advance with the help of a stereo camera and Active Body Control (ABC) that can detect curves using both a stereo camera behind the windscreen, registering the curvature of the road up to 15 metres ahead, and an additional lateral acceleration sensor.
The S 65 AMG Coupé has an AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC that is responsible for transmitting power to the rear axle. The transmission offers three individual modes: Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M), easily selected by pushing a button on the center console. The electromechanical speed-sensitive sports steering with variable steering ratio perfectly complements the sophisticated suspension technology: it optimizes vehicle handling and agility while maintaining driving safety at high speeds.
The Stately Design
The body silhouette exudes the same sleeky glorious design that captivates the essence of W 126 Coupe: majestic yet imposing because of its grand size. Supreme sportiness combined with the sensual clarity typical of Mercedes-Benz results in the captivating and irresistible contours of the S 65 AMG Coupé.
